Transitioning To University Overseas

Transitioning to university abroad can be exciting yet scary at the same time as you'll be in unfamiliar location. Here are some tips to help you tide through this change!

Stay Connected With Your Friends In Your Host Country

  • Use social network sites to find international student groups
  • Find likeminded people or those with similar hobbies
  • Connect with the locals and learn about their culture

Reach Out To The People You Trust

  • Chat with your family and friends via online means
  • Talk about how you’re feeling
  • Write letters and send postcards

Take A Break From Social Media When Needed

  • You may feel FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), and feel that your friends are continuing with their lives without you
  • Having a break can help you focus on the present
  • After all, they are probably excited to hear about your experiences too

Make Full Use Of The Resources

You can look for:
  • Lecturers, Tutors and Academic advisors for academic related questions
  • Go to the Library or read online journals
  • Career advisors for career related queries

Handling Stress

Reach out to your friends, family member, counsellor or school support helpline, if you feel overwhelmed

Have a journal or engage in art to express yourself.

Try breathing exercises, getting active, and having "me-time" to destress.
