Interview Skills

Tips on how to prepare yourself for a successful job interview

Prepare for common questions

Get yourself prepared so that you can take the stress off thinking of the answers on the spot:

  • Why did you choose this company?

  • What are your expectations for this role?

  • How do you usually handle stress and conflicts?

First Impression Matters

Body language is an unspoken form of communication that reveals our feelings and character. Practice good body language habits all the time, so that you automatically communicate what you exactly want to bring across to the interviewer (e.g., Give a firm handshake, good eye contact, sit up straight, etc.).

Be Early or Punctual

This shows a sense of awareness and respect for others' time. Being early also gives you sufficient time to find the location, and to calm down before the interview begins.

Dress Appropriately

Dress according to the nature of the job you are applying for. It will be awkward if you turn up either overdressed or underdressed. Ask people around you or google the job to see how people usually dress in your prospective job.

Ask Questions

Leave questions till the end so that you do not interrupt your interviewer. Asking questions shows that you are interested in the role, helps you to clarify any doubts that you may have, and ensures that you are a good fit for this role.

Be Genuine & Be Yourself

If you try to be someone you are not, you might land the job but it may not be suitable for you. The truth may also be revealed when you interact with the team subsequently and it may affect your credibility.

Be Patient & Stay Contactable

Waiting for a response from the company can be stressful. However, everything takes time to process and it is a part of the cycle of job searching.
