Strong and Healthy Relationships Improve Mental And Physical Health

Family
Honest Communication
This helps to resolve misunderstandings that arise in all families
Such communication involves putting oneself in another person’s place, the ability to comprehend and empathise what others are thinking and feeling
Active Listening
Communication is not just talking, but also listening to what others have to say
Being an active listener involves trying your best to understand the point of view of the other person, and acknowledging their perspective without being defensive
Colleagues
Conflict Management
Resolve conflicts sooner than later
Use words that focus on the event, instead of targeting at that person (e.g., instead of saying “when you do this….”, say “when this happens….”)
Listen before speaking to avoid jumping to conclusions
Develop an action plan and follow up
Show Appreciation
Appreciation improves workplace morale and helps to retain staff. Studies have shown that many leave their jobs because of a lack of appreciation. When employees know their hard work is appreciated, they feel valued and it motivates them to go the extra mile.
Avoid Gossiping
Gossips are rumors, false information, or the leaking of information. Conscientiously remind yourself not to participate in gossips. If someone shares gossip with you, do not pass it on. Say something positive to derail the gossip from going on. It is not easy to avoid hearing gossips, but you can control what you do it.
Students (If you are a teacher)
Listen
If your students approach you to share their struggles, it is likely that they trust you enough to do so. What you can offer them is a non- judgemental listening ear and encouragement.
Find Resources
Keep yourself updated with resources available inthe school or community such as the procedure formaking referrals. This will come in handy when you need to refer students urgently.
Establish Boundaries
Create healthy boundaries from the beginning. Being there for your students does not mean that you need to be available round the clock. Find your balance and avoid burnout.
